AMD Ryzen 7 – Windows 11 Patch, VBS and Windows 10

KitGuru has done a heap of testing with AMD Zen 5 CPUs and each time we think we have finished we seem to start testing all over again. After our initial CPU reviews we got news from AMD about the impact of Windows 11 24H2 and once we had checked that out we  decided to compare every generation of AMD Zen, starting with Ryzen 7 1800X and coming right up to date with Ryzen 7 9700X.

You can imagine our delight when Microsoft launched their monthly update for Windows 11 which included a patch named KB5041587. We were told by AMD this would deliver the benefits of Widnows 11 24H2 without the need to install a pre-release copy of Windows. In our previous video we noted we had tested with VBS Disabled and this seemed like a good time to revisit our testing and check out both the Microsoft patch and also the impact of VBS. To add to the fun and games we also ran Windows 10 22H2 as that has been requested by a sizeable part of our audience.

We are testing six models of Ryzen 7 from Zen 2 to Zen 5 – 3800XT, 5800X, 5800X3D, 7700, 7800X3D and 9700X

The fours sets of tests are:

Windows 11 23H2 as per our reviews with VBS Off
Windows 11 23H2 patched with KB5041587 with VBS Off
Windows 11 23H2 patched with KB5041587 with VBS On
Windows 10 22H2 with VBS Off

We used two test systems:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 9000 and Ryzen 7000
Motherboard: MSI MEG X670E Ace
RAM: 32GB G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo RGB DDR5-6000 C30

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5000 and Ryzen 3000
Motherboard: Asus TUF Gaming X570-Plus
RAM: 32GB Corsair LPX DDR4-3600 C16

Shared parts for all test systems:
Graphics: Gigabyte GeForce RTX 4080 Gaming OC 16GB
CPU cooler: Phanteks Glacier One 360D30
SSD: 1TB Crucial T700
Power Supply: Seasonic Prime GX-1600 ATX 3.0

KitGuru says: We did a significant amount of testing for this feature and have included plenty of facts and figures, so you should be able to run some tests on your own PC and see whether it will benefit from the latest update to Windows 11.
