No Man’s Sky announced for Nintendo Switch

No Man’s Sky has had a lengthy and impressive redemption story, with the game launching back in 2016 to middling reviews, only for studio Hello Games to double down on the title. Over 5 years later, No Man’s Sky is more popular than ever – with it set to receive a major injection of sales thanks to a newly announced Switch release.

Announced during the most recent Nintendo Direct (which also saw Mario Kart 8 DLC, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 and more revealed), No Man’s Sky has been announced to be coming to Nintendo’s handheld-hybrid.

Originally released for the PS4 and PC, No Man’s Sky has since been ported to other systems thanks to the resources afforded to Hello Games by NMS’ eventual (and well-earned) success. Now, it is finally the Switch’s turn to receive the game, with Nintendo saying “Embark on an epic voyage across the galaxy as you scavenge for resources, craft tools, and fight to survive in an infinite procedurally generated universe when No Man's Sky lands on #NintendoSwitch this summer!”

The team has not yet announced a full release date (aside from simply saying ‘This Summer’) but when it does finally release, it will be interesting to see how the game runs. Due to its procedural nature, No Man’s Sky can run both beautifully and terribly depending on what you are doing and what planet you are on.

Considering the fact that No Man’s Sky struggles somewhat to maintain 60fps on PS5 when coming across a particularly dense and stormy planet, it will be interesting to see what the game looks and runs like on the Switch. With 5 years worth of content updates and improvements, No Man’s Sky on Switch will at least not suffer from a lack of things to do and places to explore – the only question that remains now is whether players will be able to do this at a smooth and consistent frame rate. We will have to wait and see.
