Throughout the history of the video games industry, console manufacturers have always aligned themselves with retail shops to sell their respective consoles. As e-commerce becomes the norm, and game stores become redundant, Sony is beginning to set up its own online store where you can buy PS5 consoles – and it is now live for European customers.
Previously, we reported that Sony was setting up its own website in which US customers could sign up for the chance to purchase the in-demand PS5. Interested parties need only sign up and wait, and will eventually receive an email allowing them to purchase the console without any fuss, rush or website crashes.
Now, this highly convenient service is coming to Europe – namely the UK, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg. The website (available HERE) provides some additional information on how this service works, saying “We will have a limited amount of PS5 Consoles available for customers to purchase direct from PlayStation. If selected, we will contact you via email with instructions and details.”
Alongside this, they released an FAQ detailing many of the most pertinent questions such as: Who will be selected to receive an invitation and when will I know if I’ve been selected? To which Sony says “If you are selected, we will contact you via email with the date, time and instructions for your opportunity to purchase a PS5 console. Registering does not guarantee that you will receive an invite.”
While purchasing a PS5 through PlayStation Direct may not be the fastest way to obtain the elusive system, it is by far the most convenient and stress-free way to get your hands on a PS5. Hopefully the service expands to more countries soon.
