Recent rumours have indicated that Battlefield 2042 could be in for a huge shake-up this year, including a possible jump to a free to play model. This was followed by the announcement that the first season of post-launch content has been delayed to ‘summer 2022', leaving those who purchased the game to deal with a massive content drought. Now, those players are calling for EA to offer mass refunds.
A huge number of people have signed a petition demanding that EA deliver refunds to all who purchased Battlefield 2042, accusing the company of “false advertising” and releasing the game in an “unplayable” state. Currently, over 70,000 people have signed the online petition, but that number is going up every second at the time of writing. By tomorrow, it could well have passed 100,000 signatures.
“EA’s release of Battlefield 2042 was a mockery of every customer who purchased this video game for $70 (USD) due to EA’s false advertising”, the petition reads. “Battlefield 2042 has cost consumers millions of dollars in damages and upset thousands of customers worldwide.”
The petition itself has actually been around for a couple of weeks, but it has gone viral over the last couple of days, leading to a huge surge in signatures. So far, EA and DICE have not commented on the petition, and it seems unlikely that refunds will be offered. Still, it is another piece of bad PR for a game that held so much promise just a year ago. At this point, Battlefield 2042 is one of the lowest rated games on Steam, and many have gone back to older titles in the series. In fact, there are more people playing Battlefield V right now than 2042, on PC at least, as shown by Steam Charts.
