MediaTek has just become the first company in the world to live demo Wi-Fi 7 technology to customers and partners, giving them an early look at what's coming to the field of wireless communications.
According to Alan Hsu, Corporate VP and GM of the Intelligent Connectivity business at MediaTek, the implementation of Wi-Fi 7 provides Wi-Fi with the capabilities to finally replace Ethernet in home, office and industrial applications. Whether you use it for multiplayer AR/VR applications and cloud gaming, 8K calls, or streaming, MediaTek reckons Wi-Fi 7 will be up for the challenge. Compared to Wi-Fi 6, Wi-Fi 7 will be 2.4x faster while still working on the same 2.4GHz, 5GHz and 6GHz frequencies.

The demo presented by MediaTek showcases its Wi-Fi 7 Filogic technology achieving the maximum speed defined by IEEE 802.11be. In addition, it also showed its multi-link operation (MLO) technology, so partners can see how it divides traffic in multiple channels distributed by various frequencies bands. This allows network traffic to pass even if there's interference or congestion on the bands and reduces latency, benefiting applications that require constant and sustained connection, like gaming and video streaming.
MediaTek states it is one of the first adopters of Wi-Fi 7 technology and expects to see the first products featuring the technology in 2023.
