Resident Evil 4 Remake to feature story and setting changes, reveal planned for 2022

It has been rumoured for some time now that Capcom is currently working on Resident Evil 4 Remake, developed by the same team behind the highly praised Resident Evil 2 Remake from 2019. According to reports this week, the game is set to be revealed this year and will include some important changes to the setting and overall story. 

Last year, VGC reported that Resident Evil 4 Remake was in development and planned to release in 2022. This was later seemingly confirmed by a voice actor, who brazenly leaked project details on a livestream. Now, according to Fanbyte, we know a bit more about the game and some of its significant changes to setting and story. One such change appears to be that the game's opening sequence, as well as a chunk of the rest of the game, will now take place at night, rather than during the day.

Capcom hopes that changes like this will create a scarier atmosphere and adjust the tone for the full game. Some side characters will also get bigger roles in the main story alongside Leon.

Capcom is reportedly planning to unveil Resident Evil 4 Remake this year, although recent changes behind-the-scenes could push back the game's release. Initially, the game was primarily being developed by M-Two, which had a desire to remain as faithful as possible to the original game. Now, M-Two has been relegated to support studio status, with Capcom Division 1 taking the lead and implementing additional changes to the game.

Making these changes can be a risk, as we saw with Resident Evil 3 Remake, which disappointed some fans due to missing content.

Resident Evil 4 is the highest rated game in the series, so it will be interesting to see the remake and its various changes up against the original game in the months to come.
