Following on from the announcement of Ryzen 6000 series processors for laptops at CES, we've seen a few benchmark leaks ahead of launch. Earlier this week we saw the first results for the Ryzen 9 6900HX and now, we have an early look at Ryzen 5 6600H performance.
The benchmark results were shared by @Benchleaks, featuring a Lenovo 82RD equipped with an AMD Ryzen 5 6600H and 14GB of RAM. According to the Geekbench 5 entry, the 6C/12T processor boosted up to 4.54GHz, about 0.04GHz more than the advertised boost speed. The base clock was set at 3.3GHz, matching the specification.
[GB5 CPU] Unknown CPU
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 6600H (6C 12T)
Min/Max/Avg: 4316/4541/4527 MHz
CPUID: A40F41 (AuthenticAMD)
Scores, vs AMD 5800X
Single: 1472, -14.8%
Multi: 8054, -25.0%https://t.co/K2Dvv28pRP— Benchleaks (@BenchLeaks) January 26, 2022
In the single-core test, the Ryzen CPU scored 1,472 points, which translates into an 18% increase over its predecessor (1,244 points on average). As for the multi-core test, the upcoming Ryzen CPU scored 8,054 points, outperforming the average Ryzen 5 5600H by 47%.
Although the Ryzen 5 6600H is undoubtedly a better processor than its predecessor, it would be interesting to compare it against Intel's counterpart, the Core i5-12500H. Geekbench still hasn't done the math to calculate the average scores, but we did. Taking all entries with this processor and taking out those were are just weirdly low, we get an average single-thread score of 1,624 and a multi-core score of 9,203 points. In this comparison, the upcoming Ryzen 5 processor lags behind the Intel CPU, which is 10% faster in the single-thread test and 15% slower in the multi-core test.
We expect to see the first Ryzen 6000 series-based laptops available in February. By then, we will have more test results to better compare this series of processors with others.
