Intel NUC 12 Extreme SFF PC to feature desktop Alder Lake CPUs and DDR4 memory

During CES 2022, Intel announced a new gaming NUC featuring up to an Intel 12th Gen Core i9 processor. That sounded promising, but it was unclear whether it would be equipped with desktop or laptop CPUs. Now according to a leaked spec sheet, we have confirmation that the NUC will come with desktop processors under the hood.

The spec sheet leaked by VideoCardz shows it will feature a desktop LGA1700 socket with either the Core i7-12700 or Core i9-12900 processors. This could open up the possibility of changing to a Raptor Lake processor in the future, as it will use the same socket.

Considering it comes with one of these two Alder Lake chips, we now know it will also feature a Xe-LP-based UHD 770 iGPU with 32 EUs. Other features shown in the spec sheet that we had known for some time include the 3x PCIe 4.0 M.2 slots, 2x Thunderbolt 4 interfaces, Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2 connectivity, Intel Optane memory support and 10G LAN, HDMI and USB-A 3.2 Gen2 ports. Unfortunately, the system will only support DDR4-3200 memory (up to 64GB) instead of the newer DDR5. The dedicated GPU can be up to 30.5cm long and feature a 2-slot design.

In addition to the spec sheet, @momomo_us also shared Intel NUC 12 Extreme systems listings, revealing their prices. While the i7-12700 model is listed at $1514, the i9-12900 variant will put you back $1714. We expect to see them available for purchase later this quarter.
