Fortnite raises almost $150 Million for Ukraine

Late last month Epic Games announced that they would be donating all proceeds made in Fortnite for the next two weeks to charities focused on aiding Ukraine during the current crisis. Two weeks later, Epic has now announced that almost $150 million was raised.

Making the announcement on Twitter, Epic Games said “Our deepest thanks to everyone who joined us in supporting humanitarian relief efforts for people affected by the war in Ukraine.

Together with the Fortnite community and @Xbox, we raised $144 million USD for @DirectRelief @UNICEF, @WFP [World Food Programme], @Refugees [UNHCR] and @WCKitchen [World Central Kitchen].”

This is a huge amount of money which will undoubtedly aid the people of Ukraine. It is rare to see such generosity from large corporations, and while this does show just how much help all companies could do if they focused less on profit margins and more on improving society, the gesture by Epic Games is welcome nonetheless.

Credit should also be given to Xbox, who had forgone the typical 30% cut during this period. Hopefully Sony and Nintendo follow suit in future efforts, ensuring as much of the money raised as possible goes to charities.
