Ubisoft has faced plenty of criticism in recent months over its push into the NFT market. That criticism isn't just coming from gamers either – Ubisoft's own employees are equally baffled by the publisher's insistence on being part of the NFT market. In an effort to win those employees over, the publisher has now begun gifting Ghost Recon Breakpoint NFTs to its staff.
This news comes following an internal workshop at Ubisoft, where the publisher's NFT team aimed to answer questions and address concerns held by employees. By the end of the workshop, employees were offered a commemorative NFT to ‘celebrate' Ghost Recon's 20th anniversary. The NFT in question is a virtual hat, with a Ghost Recon 20th Anniversary logo on the front.
If that sounds like a confusing turn of events to you, then you're in good company as it is equally confusing to a portion of Ubisoft employees, according to Kotaku. The NFT will be gifted to employees that request one in March through the Quartz platform.
This follows on from a recent viral interview conducted by Ubisoft's NFT specialist, Nicolas Pouard, in which he claimed that NFTs will be ‘beneficial' to gamers, adding that those in opposition “just don't get it” yet.
Currently, Ubisoft is losing money on its NFT scheme, but plans to introduce more NFTs over the course of this year, and expand Quarts to support more of its own games.
