It has been seven years since the last major single-player RPG from Bethesda Game Studios, but the drought will be coming to an end later this year with Starfield. This will be the first major exclusive released under Xbox Game Studios and will also be a day-one title for Xbox Game Pass, which Phil Spencer hopes will propel the game ahead of Skyrim in terms of total players.
During a recent interview with Axios reporter, Stephen Totilo, Phil Spencer talked up the recent growth other Xbox franchises have seen thanks to Xbox Game Pass, with the likes of Forza Horizon 5 and Halo Infinite setting new records. As we look ahead towards this year's major holiday-season release, Starfield, Spencer hopes the trend of breaking records will continue.
“I love the Forza and Halo stats, I love how many people played Psychonauts 2 vs. Psychonauts 1. So, when I look at the teams, when Todd and I talk about Starfield, it’s ‘How do we make sure this is the most-played Todd Howard game ever?”
Of course, dethroning The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim will be no small feat. The game has garnered over 30 million sales since launch and continues to be played by thousands of players each month, even a decade later. Currently, Xbox Game Pass has 25 million subscribers, but Starfield should propel the service to a new milestone.

KitGuru Says: Of course, nobody is expecting Starfield to dethrone Skyrim right away, but perhaps eventually, it could become as popular, if not more popular, than recent Fallout and Elder Scrolls titles.
