Activision Blizzard is being sued for death of employee

Back when it was first revealed that Activision Blizzard had facilitated a toxic work place filled with sexism, discrimination, a frat boy culture and more, it was also claimed that the behavious of the company caused the suicide of a developer. Now, the family of the deceased is suing the $70 Billion company for their role in the death.

Warning: This article covers a number of possibly triggering topics.

Last year, when the disturbing report was revealed regarding the workplace conditions at Activision Blizzard, one of the most harrowing stories alleged that a female employee took her own life on a company trip with a male colleague, after reportedly being “subjected to intense sexual harassment prior to her death, including having nude photos passed around at a company holiday party.”

Now, as reported by The Washington Post, the parents of the deceased employee are suing the company for causing the death of their daughter through sexual harassment – with the higher ups then lying to detectives when questioned.

The timeline of the tragedy included male coworkers at a business holiday passing around nude photos of the victim without her consent while also bringing sex devices to the party. The harassment ultimately led to her suicide during the company retreat.

KitGuru says: The suicide of an employee caused by unrelenting sexual harassment is a horrific tragedy that needs to be addressed on multiple levels: on an individual basis (punishing the perpetrators) but also criticising the systemic platforms which facilitate and encourage such behaviour. Hopefully this does not happen again.
