After leaving CD Projekt Red, Witcher 3 game director, Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, has formed a new studio with a handful of other veteran game developers – with the main goal of delivering a new AAA dark fantasy RPG.
The new studio, Rebel Wolves, is now active and is working on its first game, a dark fantasy RPG built with Unreal Engine 5. A small number of former CD Projekt Red developers have moved over to Rebel Wolves, which plans to stay small and lean as a company, expanding to around 80 employees over the next few years. The studio hopes to be a place where veteran game developers can “re-ignite their passion”.
As pointed out by IGN, those joining Rebel Wolves from CD Projekt Red includes director Tomaszkiewicz, design director Daniel Sadowski (Witcher 1), Narrative director Jakub Szamalek (Witcher 3, Cyberpunk 2077), animation director Tamara Zawada (Witcher 3) and art director Bartlomiej Gawel (Witcher 1-3).
This first game will aim to “evolve the cRPG genre”, which could be a hint that this game will be PC exclusive for a time.
KitGuru Says: We're still a long way off from seeing this game in action, but its another promising indie studio to keep an eye on in the future.
