Dead Island 2 to release by March 2023

It has been eight years since Dead Island 2 was first announced and several years since the last update on the game’s development. Just one week ago, a leaker claimed that the game was finally heading towards release and now, Deep Silver's parent company has confirmed exactly that.

Originally revealed back in 2014, Dead Island 2 was originally being created by Yager Development, but due to various issues, publisher Deep Silver eventually transferred the project to Sumo Digital. Then, in 2019, development changed hands again, going to Deep Silver’s internal Dambuster Studio. We've heard little about the game since, but leaks last week indicated that the game was now on track for a Q4 2022 release window.

Embracer Group, the parent company of Dead Island 2 publisher, Deep Silver, recently held its quarterly earnings report and during a Q&A segment with investors, the company's CEO addressed the Dead Island 2 situation directly, saying that he expects the game to release in the “next financial year”, which is anywhere from April 2022 to the end of March 2023.

This launch window directly lines up with the leak last week. With that in mind, we can likely expect to see Dead Island 2 re-revealed this summer, with a late 2022 release date, but it could also slip into Q1 2023.

KitGuru Says: Dead Island 2 has had a turbulent development cycle, but it looks like there is light at the end of the tunnel. If all goes well, we should have a new look at the game and a release date later this year. Will you be picking up Dying Light 2 when it eventually releases?
