Ubisoft’s Skull and Bones will be a “multiplayer-first” game

Skull and Bones has been delayed repeatedly, but it seems that we'll finally get the chance to play it within the next year, as Ubisoft confirmed plans to release within the next fiscal year (April 2022 to March 2023). As expected after multiple reboots, the game will now be a “multiplayer-first” title.

During Ubisoft's latest earnings call, the company's CFO, Frédérick Duguet, confirmed that the game is still on its way and should be out by the end of Q1 next year, but unfortunately no more specific details were given.

Skull and Bones will now focus on multiplayer and co-op gameplay in a fantasy open world, a change in direction from the initial vision of creating a spin-off to Assassin's Creed: Black Flag. This change increased the development time considerably, but Duguet claims the team is happy with the new artistic direction and the progress they've made until now.

Unfortunately, we don't have many certainties regarding the gameplay of the upcoming Ubisoft title. However, rumours claim it will have survival elements, where you build a crew and ship by spending money and resources obtained from plundering, completing quests and doing cargo runs, jobs, and raids.
