System Shock 3 hasn’t been in active development since 2019

Warren Spector's studio, OtherSide Entertainment, first announced plans to develop System Shock 3 all the way back in 2015. At the time, many of us assumed the game would have released by now, but the game continues to be a no-show at events. Now, we know why, as it appears that the game hasn't been worked on for years.

OtherSide Entertainment was working on System Shock 3 for at least a couple of years. In 2020, we learned that the project was in trouble, as key members of the development team and creative leads began leaving. Now, Warren Spector, who served as a creative adviser on the game, has confirmed that the studio hasn't worked on the game since 2019, confirming previous reports.

Speaking with GamesBeat, Spector confirmed that OtherSide was working on the game “in 2018 and 2019” but the project has not progressed at all since then. Spector adds that Tencent now has the publishing rights, so it will be up to them to make decisions on “taking the franchise forward” and unfortunately, there is no more clarification that can be given at this time.

OtherSide Entertainment did respond to rumours that it was shutting down in 2020, confirming that the studio is “still here”, but no update on System Shock 3 was given.

KitGuru Says: It seems like System Shock 3 has been abandoned at this point, but we should still get that long awaited System Shock remake, as well as a remaster of System Shock 2. If those perform well, perhaps System Shock 3 will be back on the table.
