Recently, we learned that Dragon Age 4 is on its way towards a 2023 launch date, according to sources familiar with the game's development. Now, BioWare has given its own update on Dragon Age 4, confirming that production is currently in full swing.
In a blog post published yesterday evening, BioWare GM, Gary McKay, gave an official update on the status of Dragon Age 4, adding that the studio's goal for 2022 is to communicate more often with fans. With that in mind, we can hopefully expect more frequent updates on BioWare's on-going projects, like Dragon Age 4 and the next Mass Effect game.
“For the next Dragon Age, we are right in the middle of Production, which is a great feeling. Our blueprint was completed last year, so we’re now focused on building out our vision: creating amazing environments, deep characters, strong gameplay, impactful writing, emotional cinematics – and much more. The blueprint for the game is well understood and the team is focused. ”
The blueprint for the game being “well understood” is an important piece to the quote here. Recent BioWare projects like Anthem had a messy production cycle and much of that was brought on due to a lack of proper planning and a coherent vision for the game. Based on this quote, it sounds like Dragon Age 4 will learn from those mistakes.
BioWare has not confirmed its release timetable for the next Dragon Age yet, but sources have claimed that 2023 is the target, so expect plenty more news to come out over the next 18 months.
