The Resident Evil series is by far Capcom’s biggest, with each entry selling millions upon millions of copies – especially in recent years. In late 2023 it was announced that the franchise had sold over 150 million copies. Despite no new releases since then, the series has already reached another milestone.
As part of Capcom’s Fiscal Earning report, the publisher revealed that the Resident Evil series has now sold over 160 million units – 10 million more since their last reporting in October 2023.
Capcom reaffirmed the fact that the most recent mainline entry – Resident Evil Village – is the fastest title in the franchise to reach 10 million copies sold (3 years). That said, with last year’s Resident Evil 4 Remake already at 7.6 million copies in a little over a year, it is safe to say we’ll have a new record holder soon enough.
Beyond Resident Evil, Capcom’s other franchises seem to be doing just as well, with Monster Hunter World continuing as the best-selling Capcom game of all time (26.3 million); Street Fighter 6 now at 3.7 million; and Dragon’s Dogma 2 officially surpassing 3 million copies sold.
Ever since the release of Resident Evil 7 in 2017, Capcom appears to be firing on all cylinders – and based on their sales reports, things are only going up.
