After spending the past 15 years working on a variety of Souls and Souls-adjacent titles, FromSoftware finally returned to its roots, releasing Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon in late August of last year. While the game saw immediate success, its long-term sales have slowed down significantly.
Making the announcement on Twitter, the official Armored Core page shared the following: “#ARMOREDCORE VI FIRES OF RUBICON has sold over 3 million units! Thank you to all Ravens, new and old, who have braved the fires and flown on borrowed wings.”
While 3 million units is of course nothing to sniff at, 2.8 of those 3 million copies were sold within the game’s first two months – meaning it has only managed to push a further 200,000 units in the following 9 months.
Of course, Armored Core as a franchise is significantly smaller when compared to any of From’s souls-likes – and with Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erd Tree expansion having been released recently, many players are likely focusing on that instead.
Still, 3 million copies is certainly worth celebrating and proves that FromSoftware can produce non-souls-likes while still being a success. It’ll be interesting to see how long we’ll have to wait for another Armored Core entry.
