Last week, the Steam Deck officially began shipping to the first wave of pre-order customers and in a surprise move, it appears Gabe Newell was doing the rounds and hand delivering some of the first units.
Steam Deck pre-order customers, and even a few Steam users that didn't order a Steam Deck, woke up to a “spammy looking email” last week confirming that their Steam Deck would be arriving early. Once those units were delivered, it appeared to be none other than Valve head, Gabe Newell, handing them over, complete with a camera crew to document the journey.
Two Reddit users (via VGC) have reported Gaben sightings so far, and a few people even received free Steam Decks for recognising Newell as he was making deliveries.
Valve has not confirmed why it had camera crews present, but the company is known for filming various milestones and documenting historic moments, even if the footage is never edited into a full documentary for public release. This is just the beginning for the Steam Deck as well, as the system will continue to get software updates, newly optimised games and eventually, we may even see a new high-end model, as well as a Steam Deck 2.
