Intel reportedly wants to phase out DDR4 memory with 700-series motherboards

Based on what we've heard so far, Intel's upcoming Raptor Lake platform will support DDR4 memory as well as DDR5, just like the current generation Alder Lake processors. However, DDR4 motherboard options may become more limited when we make the jump to the 700-series chipset, as sources claim Intel is asking motherboard manufacturers to avoid pairing the upcoming chipset with DDR4 memory. 

According to TechPowerUp, Intel plans to push further into the DDR5 era with the launch of Raptor Lake and the 700-series motherboards. Assuming rumours are accurate, we should get support for DDR5-5600 with Raptor Lake, which should help transition from DDR4 to DDR5. However, Intel might be doing a little more to push the transition to DDR5 along.

The best way to prevent end-users from pairing DDR4 memory with 700-series motherboards and Raptor Lake processors is to prevent their production. So, Intel is reportedly asking motherboard manufacturers to avoid pairing DDR4 memory with new motherboards to push DDR5 adoption along.

With that said, current Intel 600-series motherboards with DDR4 memory support should also support Raptor Lake processors, all it would take is a firmware update.
