First Apple M1 Ultra benchmark shows amazing performance in multi-core workloads

Apple only just announced the M1 Ultra processor a couple of days ago, but benchmark results are already making the rounds. The M1 Ultra has been spotted on Geekbench, showcasing impressive multi-core performance. 

The Geekbench 5 entry spotted by Benchleaks sees an M1 Ultra chip paired with 128GB of memory. The tested system is most likely the top Mac Studio model, which will put you back £3,999.

The entry gives us some extra details about the CPU itself. For example, the clock speed is set at 3.2GHz, the same as the original M1. Moreover, the cache configuration also looks to be the same, although the benchmark only seems to refer to the efficient cores.

Moving on to the results, the M1 Ultra (1793) performs similar to the M1 Max in Geekbench single-core test, putting it within 10% of the Core i9-12900K (1997). The multi-core benchmark is where things get interesting. With 24055 points, the M1 Ultra scales almost perfectly with the number of cores. This scalability allows it to beat all consumer CPUs by a good margin and even outperform an AMD Ryzen Threadripper 3970X by 8%.
