The AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D will have its benefits, thanks to performance gains delivered by the new 3D V-Cache. However, it seems it will also have one drawback. According to motherboard vendors, the upcoming AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D won't support overclocking.
A Twitter user @ShiinaChaos spotted a post in Bilibili from a source claiming the AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D won't support overclocking. The source provided some proof of their ties to the situation by posting the first picture of an AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D processor, but they did not share any further details.

Soon after, TechPowerUp got in touch with sources, finding that AMD asked motherboard vendors to remove support for overclocking in the UEFI/BIOS for the Ryzen 7 5800X3D in late January. The message sent by AMD was simple: “5800X3D 8C16T 100-xxxxxxxxx 105 W AGESA: PI 1206b 1/28 Please hide Vermeer-X CPU OC BIOS SETUP options”.
The reason behind removing OC options could be linked to a limitation in the current AGESA version. However, it could also be down to 3D V-Cache, perhaps overclocking created instability within the processor when operating above a certain clock speed, which could also explain the lower base/boost clock speeds of this processor.
