Lawsuit alleging gender discrimination at PlayStation grows

In late 2021, a lawsuit was filed against Sony alleging gender discrimination. Sony attempted to get the suit dismissed recently, citing a lack of evidence of systemic issues within the company's operations. Now, eight more women have joined the lawsuit, adding their own testimony.

As reported by Axios, the gender discrimination lawsuit against Sony has grown, with eight more women joining it. The new testimony includes allegations of sexual harassment, bullying, gender bias and a lack of support from HR when attempting to resolve issues. Some more specific allegations include the ranking of female employees based on appearance, groping, and lunch trips to strip clubs.

The lawsuit was first filed on behalf of former Sony security analyst, Emma Majo, who is seeking class-action status for the case. As Polygon reports, seven of the eight women joining the lawsuit this week are former Sony employees, with one being a current employee.

These incidents are said to have taken place across multiple offices in the US. It is claimed that a disproportionate number of women have left the company in the past year, which has “alarmed leadership” at PlayStation.

KitGuru Says: Ubisoft, Riot and Activision Blizzard have all been in headlines over the last couple of years for similar issues. Sony will have to respond soon, although whether we'll see a PR statement, or just another legal filing is up in the air.
