Netflix prices are on the rise again

Netflix has been known to increase its subscription prices every few years. Recently, prices rose in the US and in May, prices will also be going up in the UK and other countries.

Netflix has begun sending out emails to subscribers, warning them of the upcoming price increase for each subscription plan. The Basic plan, which offers standard definition streaming quality on one device at a time, is going up from £5.99 to £6.99 per month. The Standard plan, which offers 1080p streaming on two devices at once, is going up from £9.99 per month to £10.99 per month.

Finally, the Premium plan, which offers 4K and HDR quality, and streaming on up to four devices at once, is going up from £13.99 to £15.99. The new pricing takes effect on the 1st of May for current subscribers, while new subscribers will already have to pay the new prices.

As usual, Netflix says this is a necessary step to continue to invest in its catalogue and fund new shows, films and documentaries. For reference, 4K streaming on Netflix used to cost £8.99 per month, so prices have almost doubled across the board over the last ten years.

KitGuru Says: I've been subscribed to Netflix's 4K plan since launch, but with the consistent price creep, cancellation of shows and Netflix's proposed plan to force an additional fee to stream across different households, I may finally cancel. Has Netflix become too expensive over the last ten years? Are you planning to stay subscribed after May 1st?
