Samsung is looking to usher in a new age of PC monitors, adopting the ‘smart' features we've become accustomed to seeing on modern TVs. The Samsung M8 Smart Monitor packs a 32-inch 4K panel, as well as a built-in webcam and microphone.
Samsung's first attempt at the Smart Monitor arrived a couple of years ago with the M7. Now, with the new M8, Samsung is kicking things up a notch with better specs. Featuring a 32-inch VA panel with 4K resolution, 4ms G2G response time and 60Hz refresh rate, the latest Samsung monitor aims to deliver everything a mainstream user would want.
As a smart monitor, users can watch Netflix, Amazon Prime and many other streaming services without needing to use or connect a PC to the display. Alternatively, you can also pair it with your phone via Samsung DeX/Apple AirPlay 2 or mirror the screen to the monitor. You can even directly access Microsoft 365 or video chat apps like Google Duo.
The Samsung M8 also features a SmartThings Hub that you may use to control the IoT devices connected to the smart monitor. Moreover, you can use voice assistants such as Bixby and Amazon Alexa through the monitor.
With 400nits of typical brightness and a 3000:1 contrast ratio, the M8 10-bit panel can cover 99% of the sRGB gamut. In addition, HDR content is supported (HDR10+) by the M8. Like most monitors today, it features an Eye Saver mode and flicker-free tech to reduce the user's eye strain.
The included stand allows users to tilt, swivel, and adjust the height as they wish. Physical interfaces include a micro HDMI port and 2x USB-C ports (one upstream and one downstream) with 65W power delivery, but WiFi 5 and BT 4.2 wireless connectivity are also present. Additionally, there are 2x 5W built-in speakers (with tweeters) and a built-in Far Field Voice microphone. Lastly, the package includes an FHD webcam (SlimFit Cam) with Face Tracking and Auto Zoom and remote control to conveniently move through the monitor's UI.
The Samsung M8 is now available to pre-order in white, green, blue and pink. The first option will cost $699.99, while the other colour variants will cost $729.99.

KitGuru says: We should start seeing more smart monitors soon, but considering the current alternatives, the M8 looks like a compelling option in this new market. As a display, it may not fulfil everyone's needs, but the feature set it packs targets a broad mainstream audience.
