Fortnite’s no-build mode is officially here to stay

Despite its position as an accessible and highly evolving Battle Royale shooter, Fortnite’s stance on its building gameplay and mechanics have been relatively static, leading to a massive skill gap over time. To solve this issue, Epic temporarily removed the ability to build. Now this is being spun off into its own mode.

Making the announcement on their blog, the Fortnite team said “The battle has changed! No-build Battle Royale arrives in Fortnite with the launch of Fortnite Zero Build. .”

Described as “a pure test of weapon, item, and traversal ability,” Fortnite’s Zero Build mode will not be replacing the tried and tested formula which has persisted since the game’s launch, but will instead be offered as an additional mode as part of the Discover page.

Like with classic Fortnite, this new mode will be available to play solo, in duos, trios and even squads, meaning no one needs to be left behind.

As Fortnite’s island map was built with building in mind, some adjustments have been made for this new mode, namely “all players have the recharging Overshield as your first line of defense in Zero Build,” as well as the ability to “Zip up Ascenders to access Blimps or use Mantling to get the high-ground over your opponents.”

It’s interesting to see how different feeling Fortnite can be just by removing one single mechanic. For those enjoying Fortnite without the building mechanics, your favourite way to play is here to stay.
