Ubisoft working on new Ghost Recon codenamed ‘OVER’

This week, Ubisoft announced that it is ending development on Ghost Recon Breakpoint, putting an end to two-years of post-launch updates. Right now, Ubisoft only has one other Ghost Recon game announced – a free-to-play multiplayer shooter. Fortunately for core fans of the series, the publisher does have a bit more up its sleeve.

Aside from the upcoming multiplayer spin-off, Ubisoft is also working on something called ‘Project Over', a new Ghost Recon game that has been in development for over a year already. According to Kotaku's sources, the game should launch in Ubisoft's 2023 fiscal year, running from April 2023 to March 2024.

This game has leaked once before, as the codename title was mentioned in the GeForce Now database leak – the same leak that Ubisoft revealed to be legitimate by attempting to have archives of the information taken down.

Unfortunately, we don't know much more about the game for now, but it will need to impress the core Ghost Recon fans. Previously, many fans of the series have voiced disappointment in Ubisoft's push into the free to play market, and then further concerns were raised when NFTs were forced into Ghost Recon Breakpoint.

KitGuru Says: Ghost Recon feels like it has been on a downward spiral since Wildlands. That game turned out to be quite solid, but Breakpoint launched to poor critical reception, and then became a complete laughing stock once NFTs were introduced to the mix. Do you think the next Ghost Recon can save the series' reputation?

While on the surface a relatively simple change, I argue that Treyarch intimately studied DOOM and the past 30 years of first-person shooter evolution to craft one of the most satisfying gameplay systems yet.
