Behaviour Interactive acquires studio behind indie hit ‘Darkest Dungeon’

Behaviour Interactive has been on a bit of a spending spree lately, putting that Dead by Daylight money to good use by acquiring additional studios, and partnering up for various spin-offs set in the Dead by Daylight universe. This week, Behaviour Interactive closed its latest deal, acquiring the studio behind the indie hit, Darkest Dungeon.

Darkest Dungeon is a roguelike dungeon crawler with dark gothic-inspired art. The game became a massive hit on Steam back in 2016, which then paved the way for the game on consoles, as well as a sequel, Darkest Dungeon 2.

Red Hook Studios, the company behind Darkest Dungeon, will now be the latest to join up with Behaviour Interactive, the company behind the multiplayer horror hit, Dead by Daylight. As this was a private company acquisition, the exact dollar amount of the deal has not been publicly disclosed.

Speaking on the agreement, Behaviour CEO, Remi Racine, said: “Earlier this year, we established an ambitious goal for our future as a publisher – to make Behaviour synonymous with horror, and surround Dead by Daylight with a library of similarly exceptional horror games. Our acquisition of Red Hook is another emphatic step towards this objective, with more to come”.

Red Hook Studios co-founder, Tyler Sigman, added to the statement, saying: “Joining forces with Behaviour is exciting on multiple levels. They have demonstrated a commitment to allowing our team to continue developing Darkest Dungeon in the manner we know best, but with the benefit of their considerable knowledge and resources. We are stronger together than apart.”
