Skull & Bones leak gives us a lengthy look at gameplay

After years of delays and internal reboots, Skull & Bones appears to be finally heading out. Recently, pre-alpha footage of the game, which appears to have been cut together for internal presentation purposes, leaked online, giving us a good look at what the game is all about.

Skull & Bones is set in the Indian Ocean, with various points of interest dotted across a sprawling map. Players can pick up contracts from NPCs and then head out on treasure hunts, explore different islands and partake in PvP and PvE combat. Players will have upgradeable ships, so you can upgrade your cannons to do more damage, or your hull for additional health.

Editors note: The original leaked video has since been taken down.

These upgrades can be obtained by farming resources in the world for crafting, you will also find lost treasure floating in the sea. You'll need to fight off other players as you gather all of this. As you might expect, the hub town with NPCs also includes a vanity ship, so expect cosmetic-focused microtransactions from the get go.

Ubisoft has not yet announced its summer event plans following the cancelation of E3 2022. However, Ubisoft is expected to host its own game announcement stream soon, with updates on major releases like Skull & Bones, as well as other long awaited projects, like Prince of Persia Remake, Beyond Good & Evil 2, Assassin's Creed, Splinter Cell and more.

KitGuru Says: The footage seems to show a lack of being able to board enemy ships, which will be hugely disappointing to many. Honestly, it seems like Ubisoft has managed to create a worse version of Sea of Thieves. Still, it is worth remembering that this is early alpha footage for internal purposes only, not a gameplay trailer intended for the public eye. With that in mind, some of what we've seen here might be outdated.
