AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D gaming benchmarks put it 15% above the Intel Core i9-12900KS

After publishing the first synthetic benchmarks of the Ryzen 7 5800X3D, the same tester has now begun sharing gaming benchmark results. Unlike the synthetic benchmark results, gaming is the field in which we would likely see the chip shine.

The XanxoGaming team had already tested AMD's upcoming chip with some synthetic benchmarks, where we can see some uninspiring results. Overall, the Ryzen 7 5800X3D looked considerably inferior to the Core i9-12900K. However, the gaming benchmarks tell us a different story.

Testing Shadow of the Tomb Raider at 720p using the DX12 API with the help of CapFrameX, the AMD processor is actually the faster of the two. More precisely, the Ryzen 7 5800X3D paired with an Nvidia RTX 3080 Ti and 32GB of DDR4-3200 memory (CL14) is 15% faster than the fastest Core i9 chip running alongside an RTX 3090 Ti and 32GB of DDR5-4800 memory (CL40). Note that at 720p, this is a CPU-bound scenario, so the GPU shouldn't make much difference. You can take a detailed look at the data in the table below:

CPU AVG FPS Baseline
AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D 231 121.58%
Intel Core i9-12900KS 200~ 105.26%
Intel Core i9-12900K/KF 190~ 100%

XanxoGaming ran more tests with 11 more games running at 1080p. However, they still have to be compared with the Intel processor, so expect more results soon.
