Recently, Battlefield 2042 dipped below 1,000 active players on Steam for the first time since launch. DICE has been quietly working on major game updates for months, pushing back all post-launch content in the meantime. Now, the 4.0 update is ready to go, bringing a huge round of changes and fixes to the game.
According to DICE community manager, Kevin Johnson, Update 4.0 for Battlefield 2042 contains over 400 individual changes, targeting bugs, quality of life updates and balancing issues. The update will be arriving next week, so we don't have the full patch notes just yet, but Johnson did tweet out a lengthy preview of what to expect.
Update 4.0 for #Battlefield 2042 is set to go live next week, with the Patch Notes going live at the start of that week too.

The first major point is that specialists like Rao and Paik will have their traits updated. DICE has also tweaked Ribbons, making them easier to unlock across modes like Rush. There have also been some major balance updates to vehicles, as well as a number of key bug fixes, such as the ADS bug when exiting a vehicle. DICE is also overhauling weapon attachments in this update, in an effort on making different loadouts feel more unique and distinct.
Those are the major points touched on today, but as Johnson says, there are many more changes that will be included in the full patch notes next week. We should get another major update later in Q2 to clean up remaining issues before new content starts rolling out starting this Summer.

KitGuru Says: It sounds like Update 4.0 will be very significant, but the majority of players are more likely to come back later on, once new content becomes available.
