Sonic Origins is releasing in June

Yesterday we reported that a high-level update regarding Sonic Origins appeared to be imminent. This was indeed the case, as SEGA has now announced that the classic collection will be available this June.

After much speculation on exactly what Sonic Origins will be, SEGA has now dropped a ton of information on the game. Sonic Origins is launching on the 23rd of June 2022 as a digital-only release.

Costing just over £30, the game will let you “Relive the classic collected adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic 3 & Knuckles, and Sonic CD in the newly remastered Sonic Origins.”

Celebrating the franchise’s 30th anniversary, all 4 titles have been upgraded to a higher resolution with widescreen support, as well as “all-new opening and ending animations for each title!” Additionally, the game will feature a museum where players will be able to unlock new content, challenges, and Special Stages.

Lastly, all titles in the Sonic Origins collection will be playable in Classic and Anniversary modes, where you will be able to “choose to Spin Dash your way through the numerous zones in Classic mode with the game's original resolution and limited lives, or the new Anniversary mode with unlimited lives and revamped fullscreen resolution.”

The classic Sonic titles have been ported to a plethora of different devices to varying degrees of success. Currently, the mobile ports of Sonic 1,2 and CD are the best way to play these games, though it looks like Sonic Origins may be setting a new standard.
