New DDR5 memory overclock record sets the bar at 10,022MHz

Lately, professional overclockers have started to push beyond the 10K MHz mark on DDR5 memory. After MSI's team set the first +10,000MHz record, Gigabyte quickly followed, setting a new DDR5 memory speed record at 10,022MHz.

According to HWBot, the new record was achieved by Gigabyte's professional overclocker, “HiCookie”. The overclocker used an Intel Core i9-12900K and a 16GB DDR5-4800 Gigabyte Aorus RGB stick on a Gigabyte Z690 Aorus Tachyon motherboard. For the operating system, HiCookie used Windows XP Professional. As you might've guessed, both the CPU and the memory were cooled using LN2.

The processor only had two cores enabled, which were downclocked to 2.1GHz. As for the DDR5 memory, it was running at 10,022MHz with 46-58-58-46-104-2 timings. After submitting the data, HiCookie was asked by HWBot to send oscilloscope footage, an efficient method to filter bugged submissions. The entry was then validated.

Consumer-grade DDR5 memory kits are still far from reaching these speeds, as they are currently topping at 7,000MHz. However, as DDR5 technology matures and new DDR5-supported platforms enter the mix, like Intel Raptor Lake and AMD's upcoming Ryzen 7000 series, we should see consumer DDR5 memory speeds improve.
