Sony is making a Gran Turismo film AND television show

Yesterday we reported on Sony’s announcement that they are working on adapting a number of their popular video game IPs into other mediums. Alongside the announcement of a Horizon show from Netflix and a God of War show from Amazon, Sony also announced a Gran Turismo show. Interestingly it seems as though Sony is betting big on GT, as they are working on both a TV show and a film.

In a new report by Deadline, the website revealed exclusive information on an unannounced Gran Turismo film. According to Deadline, following the success of the Uncharted film (which has grossed over $400 million so far) Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions are once again teaming up to adapt a video game IP into film – namely Gran Turismo.

Details are currently rather light, however according to the report, Sony is eyeing director Neill Blomkamp for the project. Blomkamp is known best for directing Sci-fi films including District 9, Elysium and Chappie and so the choice for him to direct a Gran Turismo film is an interesting one.

Very little else is known about this project so far, with the plot reportedly being kept very tight to the chest at the moment. Despite the lack of any plot details, the fact that Sony has selected a director known for Sci-fi films and the announcement of a TV show based on Gran Turismo means that both projects are already in an interesting position.

It’ll be curious to see what both these projects ultimately end up being about, and whether there is a connection or link between the two. We will have to wait and see.
