The Asus ROG Strix XG256Q delivers 180Hz FHD gaming with HDR

There are still a lot of PC gamers sticking to 1080p for gaming despite the rise in affordable 1440p high-refresh displays. ASUS ROG has a new monitor coming up for the crowd that wants to stick to 1080p and achieve higher frame rates – the Strix XG256Q.

The Asus ROG Strix XG256Q packs a 25-inch IPS panel with 1920×1080 resolution, 1ms G2G response time, and 180Hz refresh rate (OC). As per the spec sheet, it features 400nits of typical brightness, 1000:1 contrast ratio and 8-bit colour depth, allowing it to cover 99% of the sRGB colour gamut. In addition, it has VESA DisplayHDR 400 certification for HDR content.

The monitor comes calibrated out-of-the-box with a △E< 2. Moreover, it features flicker-free technology and a low blue light mode. The more gaming-oriented features include ELMB Sync to reduce motion blur, FreeSync Premium and G-Sync compatibility to diminish tearing, Shadow Boost, GamePlus overlay, and GameVisual colour modes.

On top of the monitor, there's a tripod socket that allows users to mount a camera or a smaller display on top of the XG256Q. Connectivity options include 2x HDMI 2.0 ports, a 3.5mm earphone jack, a DisplayPort 1.2 a USB-B upstream and a 2x USB-A 3.0 downstream. Although the included stand offers a decent choice of ergonomic options (swivel, tilt, pivot and height adjustment), there's support for 100x100mm VESA-compatible monitor arms.

KitGuru says: Are many of you still sticking to 1080p gaming for the time being? Would you like to upgrade to a higher refresh rate display with HDR like the new Strix XG256Q?
