The recent release and success of LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga helped to elevate our thoughts when it comes to what exactly a licensed LEGO video game is – for the better. Despite all this success, the team behind this most recent LEGO game, TT Games, appears to be in trouble due to a string of unfortunate circumstances.
A recent report by Fanbyte saw the site talk to multiple employees of TT Games, the holding company formed by a merger of development studio Travellers Tales and publisher Giant Interactive. According to Fanbyte’s sources, the crunch and mismanagement reported to have been happening at Travellers Tales prior to the release of The Skywalker Saga continues, with more than 40 employees said to have left since 2021 because of it.
Additionally, while the studio is currently working on an Unreal Engine 5-built LEGO game said to be based on “a large IP and other smaller IPs under a single owner,” Travellers Tales have reportedly been struggling with the game’s development due to the previously mentioned mismanagement issues and lack of employee retention.
Finally, with TT Games no longer the sole licensee of the LEGO brand for video game purposes, the studio is said to be concerned for its future should they lose their long-standing license. All in all, it seems as though the success of LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga has unfortunately been undermined by the studio’s many internal issues. Hopefully TT Games manages to solve these problems, allowing the studios to be able to focus on making fun LEGO games.
