Take-Two CEO claims new Red Dead Online content is up to Rockstar

The release of GTA V’s Online mode was met with an overwhelming amount of success, seeing the team at Rockstar games respond in tow with multiple significant updates for the 2013 open world game. Red Dead Redemption 2 has unfortunately been met with much less post-launch support, but according to publisher Take-Two’s CEO, whether Red Dead Online sees new content or not is entirely up to Rockstar.

In a recent interview by IGN, Take-Two Interactive’s CEO Strauss Zelnick was asked about the current frustration felt by fans due to the lack of any significant updates to Red Dead Online. In response, Zelnick said:

“Rockstar Games talks about the updates that are coming, and we're working on an awful lot at Rockstar Games. I've heard the frustration, it's flattering that they want more content, and more will be said by Rockstar in due time.”

While the CEO did confirm that servers for the game will remain online in the long term, Zelnick refused to comment on whether Red Dead Online would see any future updates, claiming such a decision is placed solely in the hands of the game’s developers – Rockstar Games.

Since the release of Red Dead 2 in 2019, Rockstar games have been keeping relatively silent. With a modest next-gen GTA V release, and no next-gen Red Dead 2 patch, it is unknown what is keeping the studio so preoccupied – though it’s probably GTA VI.
