Meta has shut down The Order: 1886 studio ‘Ready at Dawn’

Back in 2020, Meta acquired the video game studio Ready at Dawn, tasking them with the development of future virtual reality games and experiences. Following job cuts at the studio last year, Ready at Dawn has now unfortunately been fully shut down.

As reported by AndroidCentral, Ready at Dawn – the studio best known for developing the PS4 exclusive The Order: 1886 as well as the VR hit Lone Echo – is being shut down effective immediately.

While employees are “encouraged to apply elsewhere within Oculus Studios,” the move came as quite a surprise, with little in the way of any pre-warning or advanced notice.

For the uninitiated, Ready at Dawn may be known best for the controversial The Order: 1886 – and the much less controversial Lone Echo VR series – but the studio had over two decades of experience with many popular IPs.

Working with PlayStation prior to their Meta acquisition, Ready at Dawn was tasked with the development of many PSP titles, including but not limited to Daxter; God of War: Chains of Olympus and Ghost of Sparta.

As a studio, Ready at Dawn showed heaps of potential, and so it is a shame to see Meta shutting down the developer so soon after purchasing them.
