Square Enix is bringing nine legendary RPGs to Xbox for the first time

The Tokyo Game Show kicked off today and just as promised, Microsoft had some announcements to make. The headlining announcement surrounds Xbox's partnership with Square Enix, with the famed Japanese publisher set to bring a number of titles to Xbox and Game Pass, including all of the classic Final Fantasy games.

While the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster Collection launched on Switch, PlayStation, PC and even smartphones, the set of classic 2D-era titles was mysteriously absent from the Xbox library. Now, that has finally changed, with the Final Fantasy 1-VI Pixel Remaster collection now available on Xbox, and on PC via Play Anywhere, meaning you can buy it once through the Microsoft store and play it on both platforms.

Additionally, the Trials of Mana and Legend of Mana games are also coming to Xbox and PC, but Game Pass subscribers will be able to download and play the games for free as part of their subscription.

Dragon Quest fans also have something to look forward to as well, with the new Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake hitting Xbox on the 14th of November. Octopath Traveler 2, another HD-2D title from Square Enix, is currently available to play on Game Pass as well.

KitGuru Says: I played through Dragon Quest 11 through Game Pass, so I'm looking forward to checking out the new Trials of Mana games. As far as Final Fantasy goes, I already have the Pixel Remaster collection for my Steam Deck, but it is great to see these legendary RPGs finally landing on the Xbox platform after years and years of absence. Hopefully this trend continues with newer titles soon, like Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Final Fantasy 16.
