MSI Claw 8 AI+ to feature an Intel Lunar Lake processor and a bigger battery

MSI surprised us when it revealed the Claw 8 AI+ at Computex 2024, just three months after launching the Core Ultra 100-powered Claw 7. Back then, we learned about some differences, including design, screen, and a few other things, but a more recent report has gone into further details on specs for the 2nd Gen handheld.

According to Lowyat (via VideoCardz), the updated Claw model is set to feature the Core Ultra 200V “Lunar Lake” CPU, promising improved power efficiency and better performance overall. While details about the Lunar Lake SKU remain under embargo, other specifications have been confirmed, including an 8-inch 16:10 Full HD+ display with a 120Hz refresh rate, 500 nits brightness, and VRR support.

The Claw 8 AI+'s battery is also getting an upgrade, moving from 53Wh from the Claw 7 to an 80Wh battery. Note, however, that this change may result in a larger physical footprint for the device. Despite the various upgrades, pricing is expected to remain the same as the original Claw.

MSI is yet to confirm the release date of the new handheld. Still, with the Lunar Lake launch slated for September 3rd, MSI should be allowed to reveal its new console soon after Intel officially launches its latest series of processors.

KitGuru says: With the various improvements the Claw 8 AI+ brings, it could end up being worth picking up over something like a ROG Ally, assuming pricing remains in check.
