The Last of Us Part 1 announced for PS5 and PC

The 2022 Summer Game Fest Showcase concluded with the official confirmation of, and a trailer for The Last of Us Part 1: A from the ground up remake of the near decade old PlayStation 3 classic. What’s more, the game is launching in September for PlayStation 5, with a PC version promised to be coming in the future.

Making the announcement at the Summer Game Fest Showcase (after a litany of leaks) and following it up with added details on the PlayStation Blog, Sony officially announced The Last of Us Part 1, saying:

“With leaps in technology and hardware that allow us to push the limits of the visual fidelity and interactivity, we’re thrilled to announce this complete remake of The Last of Us, releasing September 2, 2022 for the PlayStation 5 console and in development for PC.”

Just some of the improvements coming with this remake includes “modernized gameplay, improved controls, and expanded accessibility options”. Additionally, “Effects, exploration, and combat have all been enhanced. Leveraging the PS5’s powerful hardware, we also implemented 3D Audio, haptics, and adaptive triggers.”

The game is said to offer “a whole new way” to experience the story of The Last of Us Part 1 and Left Behind. The game’s sequel – Last of Us Part II – gave us a good look at the direction Naughty Dog wanted to go with the franchise. Seeing as how that game was developed for PS4, and Part 1 is a PS5 console launch exclusive, it will be interesting to see just how the team at Naughty Dog have approached this remake. Regardless, it will be nice to see the game use real-time cutscenes.
