Prior to working on the highly popular Ghost of Tsushima, Sucker Punch Productions were known best for creating the Sly Cooper franchise for the PS2 and InFamous for the PS3/4. Both franchises have not seen a new release in almost a decade – and both are reportedly making grand returns in 2022.
Industry insider Nick Baker (aka Shpeshal_Nick) of the XboxEra podcast recently claimed that Sly Cooper 5 is set to be announced this year, though not until the second half of 2022. This comes about in the wake of the rumour which claims that Sony is prepping a State of Play – or another form of showcase – to go live in June.
According to Nick, Sly Cooper 5 will not be revealed at this event. Instead, the mascot platformer is supposedly going to be unveiled later on in 2022.
Following this report, AccountNGT – who previously discussed Sly Cooper 5 rumours – corroborated Nick’s statement via Twitter, though went into more detail, claiming that Sly 5 is planned to be announced during an event supposedly taking place in September.
That is not all however, as according to AccountNGT, the same source which provided him with the September date for Sly also said that InFamous would be making its grand return during that same event.
We have been hearing about new Sly and InFamous games for a while now, and while Sony have not officially said anything on the matter, both Sly and InFamous are well-loved franchises which have not seen new entries in far too long. It will be interesting to see how both franchises are translated for PS5.
