Just over 10 years ago on the 22nd of May 2012, Capcom released Dragon’s Dogma – a then-underappreciated open world third-person Action-RPG which actually featured fun combat mechanics. In the decade since, Dragon’s Dogma has yet to see a sequel, though Capcom have not forgotten the franchise with the publisher launching a website to celebrate this milestone anniversary.
Typing in dragonsdogma.com will take you to a newly revamped website in celebration of Dragon’s Dogma’s 10th birthday where game director Hideaki Itsuno released a short but sweet message to fans, saying:
“Dragon's Dogma, first released in 2012, is celebrating its 10th anniversary! Thank you, Arisen, for taking up arms and braving the impossible challenges laid ahead of you. We are forever grateful for your support throughout the years and hope you will join us in this momentous celebration of Dragon's Dogma!”
The rest of the page is dedicated to exploring Dragon Dogma’s relatively short history of releases. A month ahead of the game’s original launch, Capcom published a Dragon’s Dogma digital comic prologue, giving fans a taste of the world. One month later the game finally released on the 22nd of May 2012.
Just shy of one year later in March of 2013, an enhanced version of the game launched, titled Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen. This enhanced release would then become the basis for the remaster which came out in early 2016 on PC, and late 2017 for PS4 and Xbox One. Once Nintendo’s Switch console showed promise, Capcom then ported the HD remaster of Dark Arisen to the handheld in April of 2019.
Finally, in Autumn 2020 a Netflix original Dragon’s Dogma anime was released, though unfortunately it was not very well received. This is where the story of Dragon’s Dogma ends for now. That being said, the now infamous Nvidia leak did claim that a sequel to Dragon’s Dogma is in the works with a tentative 2023 release date.
Of course, nothing is confirmed until announced by Capcom themselves, but this new website seems to be a good first step in what might be the marketing campaign for a Dragon’s Dogma 2. The 10th anniversary website can be found HERE.
