Kojima Productions responds as PlayStation fanboys circulate petition to cancel Xbox project

Last night during the Xbox and Bethesda showcase, Microsoft confirmed its long-rumoured partnership with Kojima Productions. While Hideo Kojima has released games on Xbox before, historically, he has leaned more towards PlayStation and has provided Sony with plenty of exclusives. With Kojima now working with Xbox on a new project, fanboys have gone a bit mad, forcing Kojima Productions to respond.

We don't know much about Kojima's Xbox project yet, the only thing we know officially is that the game will utilise Microsoft's Cloud technology, and will release on Xbox Game Pass. Still, diehard PlayStation fans have taken it upon themselves to start a petition asking Kojima to not work with Xbox and cancel the project. Oddly enough, the petition itself was created 11 months ago when the Xbox partnership was merely a rumour, but it gained a wave of attention and signatures today following the official announcement.

In response, Kojima Productions has issued a statement, addressing the unfounded concern that Kojima will never work with PlayStation again. The statement says that Kojima Productions will continue to operate as an independent creative studio and will explore various possibilities when it comes to new technologies to enhance games. The studio also added that it still has “a very good partnership with PlayStation”.

While nothing has been announced yet, two Kojima projects have leaked recently – a new horror IP called ‘Overdose' and a sequel to Death Stranding. Presumably, Death Stranding 2 will end up being a PlayStation console exclusive, just like the first game.

KitGuru Says: Kojima has wanted to be a multi-platform developer for a long time, which is why we ended up with MGS V on PC and Xbox, as well as PlayStation. It is also why Death Stranding eventually landed on PC too. There's no doubt in my mind that we'll see another Kojima PlayStation exclusive someday, but it'll be nice to see his titles popping up more often on other platforms too.
