Final Fantasy 7 Remake sequel ‘Rebirth’ releasing next year

Last night during the Final Fantasy 7 Anniversary Stream, Square Enix officially revealed Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part Two. The sequel, known as Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth, will be coming next year and some early work has already been done on Part Three.

Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth is the sequel to Final Fantasy 7: Remake and is the second in a trilogy of titles. The game is currently on track to release in late 2023, but as you may have already guessed, it will once again be a PlayStation exclusive at launch. That means the game won't be heading to other platforms for at least a year, and even after that year is up, some platforms may remain left out.

The announcement trailer is just a small teaser, although it does include a small snippet of in-game footage, with Cloud and Sephiroth walking together, before cutting to a scene of Cloud and fellow SOLDIER, Zach, from Crisis Core.

Following the announcement, Creative Director, Tetsuya Nomura, released a statement, saying: “I can’t wait to share the intention behind naming the first title, “REMAKE,” and the second title, “REBIRTH.” In time, I hope to reveal what the third title will be called, and where this journey will ultimately lead”.

Nomura has also teased that work on the sequel to Rebirth and the finale to this remake trilogy has already begun.
