Sonic Frontiers producer says game won’t be delayed despite negative feedback

Many Sonic fans have been waiting for a new main series game, so there are some high expectations for Sonic Frontiers. However, fans weren't happy with recently released gameplay footage, leading to calls for the project to be delayed. However, Sonic Team will be forging ahead as planned.

Soon after the debut of the first gameplay footage, “#DelaySonicFrontiers” was created, asking Sonic Team to delay the game. However, Sonic Team studio head, Takashi Iizuka, already explained that's not going to happen in an interview with VGC. According to Iizuka, the team is happy with the game's current state and confident that the game will be good.

The Sonic Team head was also asked to comment on the mixed reactions to the gameplay trailer, and he was apparently unsurprised:

“We do realise everyone is just kind of reacting to the videos that they saw, and because they don't understand what this new gameplay is, they're kind of comparing it to other games that they already know”, he added. Iizuka also stated that the team is creating a new game format for Sonic, to which they call “open zone”.

More information on Sonic Frontiers will be revealed at Gamescom and TGS in the months to come. Currently, Sonic Frontiers is scheduled to release in late 2022 PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch.
