Square Enix has been promising Final Fantasy XVI news for months. Last night during State of Play, a new trailer for the game was finally shown and better yet, we have a release date – although the game is a little further off than you may expect.
We've been hearing for a while that Final Fantasy XVI is further along in development than we thought. This led to an expectation that the game may make it out this year, but that won't be the case. Final Fantasy 16 will be releasing on PS5 in Summer 2023:
The new trailer gives us our best look at the game yet. Final Fantasy is moving forward with action combat, rather than a turn-based system. Summons will play an important role in this game too, judging by what we've seen so far.
While Square Enix did initially plan for Final Fantasy 16 to be a 2022 release, the pandemic and the shift to work from home led to delays. Most of 2021 was spent catching up and improving communication channels to get things back on track. Now, the game will be arriving in Summer next year.
