Super Bomberman R Online is going offline forever

When Google Stadia first launched, one of the game streaming subscription service’s biggest exclusives was the multiplayer-focused Battle Royale inspired ‘Super Bomberman R Online’. Almost exactly one year after its release on Steam, the game is now being permanently shut down.

Making the announcement on its official website, Konami revealed that Super Bomberman R Online will soon be no more, saying “Thank you for playing SUPER BOMBERMAN R ONLINE.

This service has continued to operate with the support of many users since its launch in May 2021, but due to various circumstances, we have decided to terminate the service on all platforms on December 1, 2022 at 01:00:00 (UTC).”

Though they did not say why the game is being shut down, its effects will be felt immediately, with the sale of all Bomber Coins and Premium Packs ceasing from today. Any previously acquired coins can still be used, though Konami has urged that “all unused Bomber Coins be used before the end of the service.”

The announcement of the service’s termination concluded with Konami stating “The ‘Bomberman’ series is moving forward with new projects. We hope to be able to inform you of this project soon. Thank you for your continued support of the ‘Bomberman’ series.”

The Bomberman franchise is an industry classic, being one of the core arcade genre games of the 1980s. It is a shame to see Super Bomberman R Online shutting down, but not surprising. Hopefully the next game in the franchise manages to achieve a longer life span.
