Square Enix announces two surprise games for the Nintendo Switch

Each year, Square Enix seems to have a couple of games up its sleeve for the Nintendo Switch and 2022 is no exception. Today during a Nintendo Direct Mini stream, Square Enix revealed two new games for the Switch – one is a long-requested port of Nier: Automata, while the other is a new Dragon Quest game.

Nier: Automata has had a number of re-releases. The initial game was only available on PC and PS4, but the game was later repackaged in a GOTY edition for PlayStation, and a new ‘Become As Gods' edition for Xbox, both including all previously released DLCs along with the base game. Now, Nier: Automata The End of YoRHa Edition is releasing for the Nintendo Switch on the 6th of October, packing all previously released DLC, as well as a couple of exclusive costumes for the Switch version. These costumes have not been detailed yet but given the Switch exclusivity, they may be inspired by some of Nintendo's famous characters.

Square Enix had another surprise up its sleeve during today's Nintendo Direct. Dragon Quest Treasures, a new spin-off game, will be launching on Nintendo Switch on the 9th of December.

This is a treasure hunting game starring two siblings whisked away to the mysterious realm of Draconia. Along the way, players will team up with a squad of skilled monsters to track down treasure. That's about as much information as Square Enix is giving us for now, but we'll find out more closer to release.

KitGuru Says: If you never had the chance to play Nier Automata before, then I'd recommend grabbing it. Even all these years on from its original release, it has stuck in my mind as one of the most fun action games of the last console generation.
